TRIP OVERVIEW

Araku Valley is a relatively unexplored hill station, often visited as a weekend getaway by locals and located about 120 kilometres from Vishakhapatnam. If you are a tourist looking for exclusivity and tranquilly, at 6.50 AM, the Vistadome train leaves Vishakhapatnam, making its way through 58 tunnels and passing over 84 bridges to reach Araku in about 5 hours, go, catch that!

Located in the gentle hills of the Eastern Ghats, there are also a variety of tribes in the Araku Valley. A few tribal caves and the Museum of Tribal Arts, which are an experience in their own right, are both home to this valley. This destination is very popular for its delicious coffee, which will leave you longing for a cuppa with a subtle aroma. You can also try your hand at a variety of adventure sports here, which also include trekking and swimming, in addition to being a lovely view point.

Araku is located about 114 kilometres (71 mi) from Visakhapatnam, close to the Odisha state boundary, in the Eastern Ghats. The Anantagiri and Sunkarimetta Reserved Forest, part of the Araku Valley, is rich in biodiversity and is mined for bauxite. One of the highest peaks in Andhra Pradesh is the Galikonda hill, rising to a height of 5,000 feet (1,500 m). The average precipitation is 1,700 millimetres (67 in), much of which is collected between June and October. The height is about 1300 m above sea level. The valley extends for about 36 km.

In 1898, coffee was first introduced by the British in the Pamuleru valley in the East Godavari district in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh. It subsequently spread in the early 19th century to the Araku Valley. After independence, the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department established coffee plantations in the valley. In 1956, through local tribal farmers, the Coffee Board appointed Andhra Pradesh Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (GCC) to promote coffee plantations in the valley.

The journey by train to Araku Valley is something that everyone should experience with tunnels, hill sides, streams, waterfalls that make your travel truly mesmerising. With sharp curves and stunning scenery along the way, the trip through the road is equally enchanting.

With beautiful waterfalls such as Sangda waterfalls and Dumbriguda waterfalls, Araku is also blessed. Even as it is a popular trekking spot that attracts adventure seekers from across the world, Araku does not disappoint adventure lovers.
