TRIP OVERVIEW

Kolkata is soaked in layers and layers of heritage and culture, and peeling off each layer to look under the hood is a very satisfying, once-in-a-lifetime experience, starting from admiring the thriving art scene in the city to going on satisfying gastronomic explorations to wandering around the countless bazaars to sitting at the banks of the Hooghly and enjoying a peaceful sunset. As the famous quote goes, ‘Come to Calcutta if you want a city with a soul.’

Kolkata has a distinct tinge of its royal history lingering in every nook and cranny of the city, formerly the capital of the British Empire until the government was moved to Delhi. If you want to immerse yourself in some of the city’s royal history, take a stroll along the streets of North Calcutta, home to some of the city’s oldest mansions, lined with vineyards and a persistent sense of aristocratic pride.

Kolkata is home to the ancestral house of Rabindranath Tagore, which has now been converted into a museum and houses a beautiful collection of portraits and paintings by the family. There are several ghats in the city where you can sit and enjoy a sunset while sipping on tea, one of the most noted of which is the Prinsep Ghat, which offers spectacular views of the backdrop of the Vidyasagar Setu.Millennium Park is nearby, and is a beautified waterfront park from where boat rides and cruises can be accessed.

The street food of Kolkata is popular all over the world, and every corner of the city is lined with eateries and food stalls where you can enjoy local Bengali food, or try local snacks such as Jhalmuri or Ghugni Chaat.

Kalighat painting originated in Kolkata in the 19th century as a local style that represented a range of themes, including mythology and everyday life. Established in 1864, the Government College of Art and Craft was the birthplace and workplace of prominent artists such as Abanindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy and Nandalal Bose.

The art college was the birthplace of the Bengal School of Art, which emerged in the early 20th century as an avant-garde and nationalist movement reacting against the prevalent styles of academic art. Daily art exhibits are organised by the Academy of Fine Arts and other art galleries. For more details about Chennai to Kolkata tour package please contact 9443204141,9578784466.
