A famous tourist monument in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari, India, is the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The monument stands on one of two rocks situated approximately 500 metres (1,600 ft) east of the Vavathurai mainland. It was constructed in 1970 to honour Swami Vivekananda, who is reported to have achieved rock enlightenment.

The Gandhi Memorial Mandapam was constructed on the spot where, before immersion, the urn containing the ashes of the Mahatma was held for public viewing.
